Best Specialty Coffee Shops in Phoenix Right Now
Phoenix is hot. Like, ridiculously hot. You might not immediately think of Phoenix as a coffee city. You probably imagine everyone chugging 48oz iced drinks just trying to survive the walk from the car to Target. But you SHOULD think coffee because deep inside the specialty coffee community, something exciting is brewing.
While other cities built their coffee scenes around rainy mornings and cosy sweaters, Phoenix built one around crisp iced drinks, beautifully dialled espresso, creative cafés, and people absolutely obsessed with quality coffee. These factors came together to form one of the most exciting and fast-growing specialty coffee scenes in the USA.
As Creature Coffee settles into Phoenix for our newest expansion, we’ve spent a lot of time exploring the local coffee community. We don’t have a coffee shop ourselves but we build wildly fun specialty espresso bars for events, weddings, conferences, offices, and brand activations and when we’re off the clock, these are the spots we keep coming back to.
To make our list of the best coffee in Phoenix, a café has to absolutely nail:
- Incredible espresso
- Dialled drip coffee (do not underestimate the drip)
- Inspiring single-origin options
- Smiles and “let’s be friends” posi vibes
Phoenix is quietly becoming one of the most exciting coffee hubs in America. The coffee community here is passionate, hungry, creative, and seriously talented + full of people and shops bringing exciting coffee experiences to the desert.
Sure, Phoenix has plenty of chains. But look a little closer and you’ll find tons of independent coffee companies slinging incredible coffee, pushing quality forward, and making waves nationally. From experimental single origins and world-class fruit funky pour-overs to beautifully designed cafés and wildly creative iced drinks, this city is building something very special.
We’re very into it.
Moxie Coffee Co.
Moxie is the kind of place that makes coffee professionals quietly lose their minds. Their in-house pastry program is insanely good, the pour-over menu is exceptional (I am always sold when I see a Wilson Benitez coffee on bar), and the single-origin selection ranges from super clean and crisp to as funky as you want to go. If you’ve got the cash, you can go absolutely wild here. Known across the country for incredible coffee and rightly so.
Cartel Roasting Co.
An Arizona original and still one of the biggest names in specialty coffee. With 10 locations across Phoenix, some opening as early as 5:30am, Cartel has saved many early mornings for me already. The espresso is always dialled in, and some locations even offer double-drip single-origin options.
Press Coffee
A Phoenix original company with nearly 20 locations across Arizona. Press has built a reputation around approachable but genuinely high-quality specialty coffee, with excellent single-origin offerings and beautifully balanced espresso.
Also: the fact you can grab a flat white while grocery shopping at Sprouts? Elite Sunday behaviour.
Mythical Coffee
Mythical Coffee has our heart a little bit. Bright branding, colourful drinks, incredible service, and a clean white space that somehow feels both calming and exciting at the same time. Their single-origin program is exceptional, and they’re known nationally for pushing coffee quality forward.
Maybe this is our coffee shop second cousin?
Café Vita
Our Seattle friends are in Phoenix??!! Heck yeah.
We were ridiculously excited to see Café Vita land down here. Everything you’d expect from them is here: incredible espresso, brilliant coffee sourcing, a beautiful café, and a menu that just works.
See you soon, friends.
Dialog
If coffee could look like a Scandinavian minimalist furniture store, this would be it.
Apart from coffee and beautiful furniture, Dialog has incredible pour-over equipment, Japanese milk bread on the menu, and one of the best matcha programs we’ve seen in Phoenix. Everything here feels thoughtful, intentional, and wildly high quality.
Why not pick up some furniture while you’re at it?

Futuro
Located inside Palabra Hair Art Gallery, Futuro feels more like an art installation than a coffee bar — in the best possible way. The drinks push creative boundaries hard.
Minimalist, artsy, weird, absolutely brilliant.
Peixoto Coffee
These guys roast AND grow their own coffee? Say what?
The Peixoto family farm in Brazil has over 100 years of coffee-growing history, producing some exceptional coffees. What they grow on the farm ends up in the cup. Three Arizona locations and absolute legend status in both Phoenix and Brazil.
A Few More Phoenix Legends
Phoenix has way too many good coffee spots to stop there, so a few extra shoutouts:

- Regroup Coffee + Bicycles — Slayer espresso, amazing pastries, and one of the coolest bike shops around
- Wonderift Coffee — always worth a stop
- Aftermarket Coffee — beautiful branding and quality-driven coffee
- Harlem Coffee Co. — showing some fellow coffee cart friends love
- Berdena’s — nails the balance between incredible coffee and genuinely fantastic food
